IOS Press Ebooks - The Use of Robotics in Dementia Care: An Ethical Perspective

#artificialintelligence

Dementia and other related diseases are becoming increasingly diagnosed and are placing a serious strain on the healthcare system. Robotic technology research is currently underway to provide the much needed support to patients, caregivers, and health providers. This includes examining the ethical implications of robots use in healthcare. This scoping review explores the current state of the literature regarding robotics and dementia with a special lens on ethics. More specifically, this paper strives to gain an understanding of the current ethical considerations, and propose an intervention for evaluating ethical considerations prior to implementation.

IOS Press Ebooks - Characterization of Type 2 Diabetes Using Counterfactuals and Explainable AI

#artificialintelligence

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder of glucose management, whose prevalence is increasing inexorably worldwide. Adherence to therapies, along with a healthy lifestyle can help prevent the onset of disease. This preliminary study proposes the use of explainable artificial intelligence techniques with the aim of (i) characterizing diabetic patients through a set of easily interpretable rules and (ii) providing individualized recommendations for the prevention of the onset of the disease through the generation of counterfactual explanations, based on minimal variations of biomarkers routinely collected in primary care. The results of this preliminary study parallel findings from the literature as differences in biomarkers between patients with and without diabetes are observed for fasting blood sugar, body mass index, and high-density lipoprotein levels.

IOS Press Ebooks - Machine Learning to Identify Fake News for COVID-19

#artificialintelligence

International Organizations are seriously concerned about the fake news phenomenon. UNESCO has defined the term of misinformation/disinformation, which are the two faces of fake news. European Commission has conducted a survey about "Fake News" through EU citizens to estimate the awareness and people behaviour related to the appearance of fake news and disinformation on electronic. The findings are quite worrying, since about 40% come across fake news daily and 85% evaluate fake news as a problem. The aim of this work is to introduce an Artificial Intelligence approach, the Decision Trees algorithm to identify fake news on the COVID-19.
